PRISM (The Plastic Packaging Recycling using Intelligent Separation technologies) is a new way of rapidly sorting packaging based on intelligent labels with invisible markers that can be detected and sorted using existing high-speed optical sorting systems used in MRFs with minor modifications. This initiative has secured funding from the UK government innovation agency Innovate UK, as well as the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and commercial partners.

Zentis Polska has continued its strategy of innovation by introducing top-cup, a new type of packaging for the dairy industry in Poland.

Zentis presented the new type of packaging for dairy products at the beginning of the year. The toppers come in two sizes: with a diameter of 95mm, and a smaller diameter of 75mm. For toppers of 95mm diameter their height is 8mm, and the weight of the preparation in a topper is 40-45g. For toppers of 75mm diameter their height is also 8mm, but the weight of the preparation in the topper is 25-30g.

Ardagh Group’ developed a shaped seafood can, referred to in the industry as a “dingley”. This can has been designed with a conical wall thickness of only 0.170 mm, a significant advance over its nearest competitor at 0.215mm. This impressive innovation was achieved by technicians at the Cuxhaven plant supported by Ardagh’s R&D Centre in Crosmieres, France. Together they applied their in-depth knowledge of beading – the ridges, which come in many shapes and sizes, built into the can to give its body strength and stability.

This newly developed joint pad made of corrugated cardboard helps the carton being attached to the pallet. The carton is fixed by the weight of the contents without using nails or PP bands. Honeycomb board is used for the grinder to provide strength same as wooden pallet. The pad can be applicable to a variety of pallets by changing its size. This pad saves the packaging cost by reducing the usage of nail and PP band material.

The measure is part of a new campaign ‘to protect the world’s oceans from the devastating impacts of plastic pollution’.Keepers used the last of ZSL London Zoo’s recycled bottles to create a floating feeding puzzle for the Humboldt penguins to play with.

This innovative Packaging for NIKE Inflatables is developed by OIA Global. The company has incorporated origami and geodesic design elements into an invention that simplifies complexity, improves productivity and exudes creativity.  The unique “Prizm” design consists of a series of ten alternating equilateral triangular panels that when formed, the antiprismatic band creates an open geodesic socket that allows the ball and packaging to hold onto each other naturally, with minimal material, high product visibility and an intuitive reusable latching mechanism.
