Airnov laser-marked desiccant canisters reduced risk of contamination by eliminating print or paper labels

August 24, 2020 – Airnov Healthcare Packaging, a global leader in controlled atmosphere packaging, is introducing a new line of laser-marked sorbent and desiccant canisters without direct printing or labeling. Laser marking produces clean, readable product and warning information with reduced risk of contamination of packaged pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals. It also contributes to a smaller carbon footprint. Laser marking utilizes the energy of a highly focused laser beam to produce a combined thermal and photochemical effect that results in permanent marking.

Nestlé pilots reusable and refillable dispensers to reduce single-use packaging

Working in collaboration with the start-up MIWA, Nestlé recently piloted the reusable and refillable dispensers in three Nestlé shops located in Rorschach, Orbe and La Tour-de-Peilz, Switzerland. During a four-month trial period, the dispensers were well received by consumers and Nestlé was able to gain valuable insights including the user-friendliness. To further assess the dispensers’ effectiveness in preventing packaging waste along the supply chain, the dispensers are now being rolled out across more locations in the next few months.

Kezzler ensures consumers in China are getting the right radish

Radishes are an important ingredient in Chinese cooking and are used extensively in that country. The project involves the application of unique, secure, and traceable QR codes to every pack of radishes. In addition, there is a four-digit hidden pin code for authentication. Chen Hailin, senior project manager at RunHui explained, “We were impressed with Kezzler’s technology and the speed and ease at which it could be integrated with our existing digital infrastructure. This enabled us to create a connected and visible supply chain.

Johnnie Walker's parent firm Diageo doubles down on sustainability with paper-based bottle

Beer and spirits company Diageo has launched plastic-free spirits in paper-based bottles, made entirely from sustainably sourced wood. The paper-based bottle is said to debut with Johnnie Walker in early 2021. Developed in partnership with venture management company Pilot Lite, the new bottle is made from sustainably sourced pulp to meet food-safe standards and will be fully recyclable in standard waste streams.
