Metsä Board Paperboards Slash Carbon Footprint of Beautycare Packaging by 50%

A recent life cycle assessment (LCA) study by Metsä Board has revealed that switching to their fresh fibre paperboard can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of beautycare packaging, offering an eco-friendly alternative for cosmetic brands. Verified by the IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, the study shows that replacing conventional packaging materials with Metsä Board’s folding boxboard can reduce carbon emissions by over 50%.

Manufacturing and material groups sounded off with concerns after President Donald Trump followed through on imposing tariffs on the United States’ biggest trading partners.

Trump signed executive orders placing 25% tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico, and an additional 10% tariff on imports from China, with those changes due to take effect Tuesday. The White House said the actions are justified because of what it described as a need to stymie a flow of fentanyl and illegal immigration.

Toy manufacturer Mattel has issued an apology after a misprint on the packaging of its ‘Wicked’ dolls directed consumers to an adult website.

According to the group, Polymax has the ability to be recycled alongside paper, plastic, metal or food, and can be put into consumers’ black bins, where “it will safely biodegrade”, or in recycling bins “where it will dissolve as part of the process without the risk of damaging or polluting the environment”.

N Brown further anticipates that its use of conventional plastic will be reduced by 44 percent once Polymax is rolled out across the business, a process that is expected to be complete by the end of 2025.

LaserSharp Marking was developed by LasX in a development and engineering partnership with P&G. It synchronizes laser motion and pulses ‘several million times per second’ in an effort to unlock high speed, resolution, and print quality.

The solution does not utilize the PSA and shrink label materials, PSA release liners, inks, adhesives, or other conventional materials used for label application. As such, it is believed to reduce waste, unlock mono-material packaging, and help brands meet their sustainability goals without compromising on visual appeal.
