Packaging industry growing at 15-17pc can genrate jobs at district level, says experts

The packaging industry is growing at 15-17 per cent and the sector has the potential to create employment opportunities in the country, industry experts said.The experts also called for the promotion of domestic players and setting up the packaging industry in every district on the lines of the 'one district one product' initiative to create jobs at the local level.

Coles to stop selling soft-plastic shopping bags by end of June

Coles has promised to phase out soft-plastic shopping bags in-store and online by the end of next month.

The supermarket chain says its remaining supply of soft-plastic bags will be run down in the coming weeks and it will cease selling them by the end of June.

The move to reduce unnecessary packaging at the checkout is expected to take 230m plastic bags from circulation nationwide within a year.

The Coles Group chief operations and sustainability officer, Matt Swindells, said the decision was proof of the retail giant’s commitment to affect positive change.

Mumbai, India – 3D Neopac, a global provider of tube packaging for cosmetics and health care, and the India-based subsidiary of Hoffmann Neopac of Switzerland, will introduce a range of post-consumer recycled content tubes sourced from an India-based material supplier at the Contract Manufacturing & Private Label Exhibition, May 4-5 in Mumbai.

UPM Specialty Papers and Fiorini co-create a new highly moisture and grease resistant, fibre-based pet food sack

Pet food can be challenging to pack because it has high levels of grease. Standard papers typically used for pet food packaging are unable to offer the required level of grease and moisture resistance. In addition, 20kg pet food sacks need to be strong, creating a need for reinforcement and the possibility to resist external weather conditions. Until now, plastic laminated paper has been usually used to provide the required level of strength and barrier qualities.
