Utilizing Frugalpac's Frugal Bottles, crafted from 94% recycled paperboard with a food-grade pouch housing the wine, Aldi introduces the UK's first supermarket own-brand paper wine bottles. These innovative bottles are fully recyclable and weigh five times less than standard glass bottles.
Launching on Global Recycling Day, March 18th, Aldi will offer the Cambalala South African Shiraz (£7.99, 75cl) and Cambalala South African Sauvignon Blanc (£7.99, 75cl) in lightweight paper bottles nationwide. The bottles will debut at ProWein on Frugalpac's stand at Hall 9 Stand B71, showcasing the future of wine retailing.
By opting for paper bottles and stocking them across stores, Aldi has significantly reduced its carbon footprint, equivalent to circumnavigating the planet 5.8 times. This environmentally friendly choice appeals to eco-conscious wine enthusiasts.
In addition to their green credentials, Aldi's new paper bottles are practical for on-the-go consumption, especially as picnic season approaches.
The Cambalala South African Shiraz offers rich red fruit, blackberry, and cherry flavors with spicy oak notes, ideal for pairing with pork, lamb, or beef dishes. Meanwhile, the Cambalala South African Sauvignon Blanc boasts winter melon, green apple, and citrus notes, with vibrant acidity making it perfect for chicken, seafood, and salads.
Julie Ashfield, Aldi UK's Managing Director of Buying, expresses pride in the supermarket's sustainable initiative, working in collaboration with Frugalpac to introduce the paper bottle range. Frugalpac CEO, Malcolm Waugh, echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of offering consumers greener choices.
Aldi's new Cambalala wines will hit stores on March 18th, coinciding with Global Recycling Day. These paper bottles represent a significant step towards sustainability in the drinks industry.
Frugal Bottles are making waves globally, with over 35 drinks producers launching 128 different SKUs of wines, spirits, and olive oils in Frugal Bottles across 25 countries. Frugalpac aims to further reduce carbon emissions by establishing local Frugal Bottle Production Hubs, creating jobs, and cutting costs for the industry.
