The company, which is considered a global leader in compostable packaging solutions, has created a plastic-free, compostable and recyclable packaging tray. Tipa have manufactured this tray line from natural rice waste, such as rice by-products, and this material is called paddy straw. Normally, the ingredients for paddy straw are disposed of and during this process they are burned, which is a large contribution to air pollution. Instead of causing this harm to the environment, Tipa chose to take this bio-waste material and repurpose it into packaging that has many benefits. These benefits revolve around the packaging’s unique pulp composition, which makes the packaging capable of fully decomposing into compost, once it has been disposed of in consumer’s compost bins or recycling bins with paper waste. Alongside its ability to be broken down efficiently, the packaging has also been proven to be durable and sustainable.
Due to this innovative and excellent design, the packaging has achieved a Cradle to Cradle Certified® Silver award. This certification evaluates and recognizes products for their environmental and social impacts. It is this system that acts as a premier multi-attribute guideline which designers, brands and manufacturers throughout the world and from various industries follow. The system guides the design and production of products that are aimed at creating a healthy, equitable and sustainable future. Plus, every product that Cradle to Cradle evaluates must originate from nature.
The paddy straw trays that were recently launched by Tipa, were successfully manufactured with the intention of them becoming an eco-friendly alternative to plastic packaging and boxes. The alternative packaging solution, offers excellent durability as well as versatility. It has also been designed to be suitable for fresh produce, baked goods and finally, hot foods. The trays are also GM-free, bio-based, provide any items they package with an extended shelf life and are also tactfully manufactured in a range of shapes and sizes so that they are suitable for multiple products within the UK, Europe, USA and Australia.
Overall, the achievement of this award truly depicts Tipa’s commitment to improving eco-friendly product innovation, whilst also acting as a stepping stone, to enabling this kind of packaging to be used on a larger scale.
TIPA’s CEO and Co-Founder, Daphna Nissenbaum, commented, “Achieving this certification underscores our unwavering dedication to delivering circular packaging alternatives and signifies the recognition of our efforts by globally recognized entities.”
