the fda last year detailed its plan to begin regulating the ecigarette industry under a 2009 law that gave it authority over a broad range of tobacco products, but it has yet to finalize any new rules. the centers for disease control and prevention last year reported that calls to poison centers across the country involving ecigarettes had surged.  representatives of the ecigarette industry say the increase in poison control calls is relatively modest given the explosive growth in the use of ecigarettes.
