melbournebased oca which provides print management, warehousing and logistics services has installed a third big offset press at its print bound subsidiary.the acquisition of the heidelberg speedmaster xl 106 six colour led uv press will be the company&39s first foray into packaging and will help it boost its production capacity.when oca acquired print bound in march, it had only one offset press, a heidelberg speedmaster 102 12colour press. currently the company owns three with a heidelberg cd 74 five colour and the new xl 106.the increased capacity has led to it insourcing its prepress last month with a new ctp, while several digital and wide format investments have made it a fullservice printer.the company will now focus on high quality shortrun work and make extensive use of the xl 106&39s uv capability for quick turnaround jobs.as the press is capable of printing on different substrates including plastic, it will increase print bound&39s versatility. the press runs at the speed of 18,000 sheets an hour.the company will also benefit from the various ecofriendly features of the press, including its carbon neutrality, 33 more energy efficiency and an impress control that can save up to 200 sheets from getting wasted.oca ceo naresh gulati was quoted by proprint as saying "i invite all printers in australia to take advantage of the latest and most sophisticated press in the australian market.""i want everything we do to be environmentally friendly because we have a responsibility to make print sustainable. we have designed the whole new site in this way. many of these features are not on any other press in australia."
