sabic, which is one of the biggest polyolefins polypropylenes and polyethylenes producer, has now published all of its compliance and food safety declarations on line, three years before the mandatory 2016 deadline. on the company&rsquos european pages, the declarations are made available for the public. the new regulations engross stricter testing on the ways migration from packaging into food is evaluated. as these new policies will come into affect over the span of next three years, packaging companies will plastics processors and require looking out for further assurances on obedience from their suppliers of materials. on may 1, 2011, eu plastics regulation eu 102011 pim came into effect. it introduces many changes to regulations personified in council directive 82711ec, specifically with reference to checking conditions for movement of individual chemicals and in what can be utilized in the tests to replicate actual foods. there are modifications to the period of some tests, to the temperatures at what point some tests are performed, and to the stimulants for alcoholic and aqueous products within the packaging. however, until january 1, 2016, the new regulation will not become obligatory. for pp and pe, sabic already has reviewed all materials regulated with a specific migration limit sml in the new conditions 10 days at 60ºc. its experiments showed that none of its pp or pe materials will be subject to further restrictions for use in food contact applications. in europe, food contact legislation is based on the belief that all materials are prohibited unless they are clearly allowed. as far as exodus from the package to the contents is concerned, there are severe limits on precise migration sml, concerning to individual chemicals and on the whole migration oml, the sum of all particular migrations. while there is no official compulsion for them to carry out migration tests, all producers of plastics raw materials have to give a document of conformity doc to their end customer, offering confirmation that the material fulfils the appropriate legal requirements. furthermore, they have to reveal the characteristics of additives and monomers, regulated with a qm andor sml restriction, as well as the characteristics of &ldquodualuse&rdquo additives. they also have to offer information on limitations of use, if relevant. source of information httprevipackonline.wordpress.comcategoryfoodpackaging
