posted dec. 16, 2014 @ 1156 amuniversity of illinois extension mercer county 4h will hold a food packaging event on tuesday, december 16 at the mercer county high school, 1500 s college ave., aledo, starting at 330 p.m. in the cafeteria. high school youth, mercer county 4h federation and members of the community will package 10,000 meals. the meals will be distributed locally to the churches of mercer county food pantry. the project is funded by a grant from the illini feeding and growing our communities and illini fight hunger. if you would like to help, please contact u of i extension at 309 5825106.university of illinois extension in mercer county will be organizing a new community service club called 4h teen hunger ambassadors. the club will be open to all teens ages 12 and older who want to help address food insecurity in their local community. youth will determine how best to address the issues in mercer county. teens interested in joining or anyone wishing to donate to the project can contact cheryl geitner, 4h youth development educator, at 309 5825106.
