The NEOPS® foam material serves as an eco-friendly alternative to expanded polystyrene (EPS), emerging from a collaborative effort between Knauf Industries' ID lab research and development center and raw material producers.
Following the biomass balance concept, NEOPS® substitutes fossil raw materials used in polystyrene production with renewable counterparts. This material is REDcert² certified, adhering to a novel standard for sustainable biomass in the chemical industry. Notably, NEOPS® is derived from non-petro-sourced, non-food renewable resources (such as green waste) through the Mass Balance method.
This innovative approach aligns with the principles of the circular economy, diminishing reliance on fossil raw materials and achieving a minimum 30% reduction in greenhouse gas (CO2) emissions.
NEOPS® products are fully recyclable within PSE sectors, emphasizing compatibility with sorting bins, collection points, and KNAUF Circular initiatives.
While NEOPS® maintains technical performance on par with expanded polystyrene, it excels in environmental impact. The material offers various grades, each designed to enhance performance in thermal insulation, fire resistance, shock absorption, and suitability for food contact.
