Mondelēz said the eliminated material is equivalent to the weight of approximately 428 passenger vehicles, assuming an average of 1.3 metric tons per vehicle, or roughly 93 elephants weighing six metric tons each. The reduction also equals the combined weight of around 12.8 million standard Paleta Payaso units. The company emphasized that the redesign was implemented without altering the product’s size, taste, or visual identity, a factor it considers essential to maintaining consumer trust and brand equity.

The Coca-Cola Company’s official bottler in Sicily, Sibeg Srl has installed a new 18,000-bph complete-aseptic PET line at its Catania site, selecting Sidel as the single-source supplier for the packaging line. The investment is designed to pull “sensitive” beverages back from co-packers, expand the plant’s product mix, and support sustainability targets that include zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030 and full carbon neutrality by 2032.

Netherlands leads EU in circular material use amid upward data trend

Eurostat has reported that 12.2% of materials used in the EU in 2024 came from recycled sources.
The Netherlands recorded the highest circularity rate at 32.7%, while Romania, Finland and Ireland posted the lowest levels.
Circularity increased in 21 EU countries since 2015, with Malta seeing the largest rise and Poland and Finland experiencing the sharpest declines.

The Netherlands had the highest circularity rate last year, and Romania the lowest, according to the data.

Villa Maria unveils new packaging design

New Zealand wine brand Villa Maria has unveiled a new bottle and label design as part of its commitment to being more sustainable.

The new branding will launch across the firm’s Private Bin and Cellar Selection ranges just in time for the festive trading period. In 2026, the refreshed look will be expanded to Villa Maria’s Reserve range.

It was developed in partnership with Design Bridge and was tested with consumer research across key markets.

The Holy Carp! packaging is made of bagasse pulp, a fibrous by-product of sugar production, and was designed to be used by the same restaurants that may have once offered the plastic packets with their takeaway sushi.

Just like with the plastic packaging, Holy Carp! can be used as a dropper, allowing diners to squeeze the fish's "belly" to squirt small amounts of soy sauce on their food.

Working with design agency Pearlfisher, and produced exclusively at Ardagh Glass Packaging’s facility in Limmared, Sweden, the bottle brings Haring’s style to life through intricately debossed dancing figures, and a screen-printed vibrant yellow panel that, when viewed through the clear glass, creates an illusion via reflection that the entire bottle is yellow.
