After the facility is completed in 2020, 35,000 metric tons of discarded PET plastic (polyethylene terephthalate or beverage plastic bottles) and HDPE plastic (high density polyethylene or plastic containers for personal care products) will be processed and recycled annually. .
"Plastic Rebirth" was jointly created by Baguio waste treatment and recycling company, Swire Coca-Cola and Eurogreen Group. When the facility is completed by the end of next year, it will become the largest similar plastic recycling facility in Hong Kong.
Handles over 100 metric tons of PET and HDPE waste daily.
According to reports, the new facility is expected to handle more than 100 metric tons of waste PET and HDPE plastics daily, of which about two-thirds of the production capacity is PET plastics and one-third is HDPE plastics.
The new facility has a total of three processing processes that can convert classified PET and HDPE plastics into quasi-food-grade rPET flakes and high-end rHDPE pellets for high-quality consumer or industrial products as raw materials. This recycling process can extend the life of reusable plastic, thereby reducing the risk of plastic being landfilled or flowing into the ocean.
Swire Coca-Cola CEO He Yili said that Swire Coca-Cola launched the “Waste Free Drink” initiative in 2017 and made a series of commitments, including the full use of rPET recycled rubber to manufacture all “Fly Snow” mineral water water bottles in Hong Kong and set up in Hong Kong 300 "Feixue Water Stations" and the recently launched "Smart Drink Plastic Bottle Collecting Machine", which encourages consumers to recycle PET plastic bottles with cash rebates.
