DS Smith has allocated €6 million towards the installation of a new 4-colour converting machine at its packaging facility in Eerbeek, Netherlands. This investment reflects the company's commitment to meeting the rising need for sustainable packaging solutions, particularly as alternatives to plastic gain traction.
The newly installed machine will specialize in producing customized boxes, including the well-known European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers (FEFCO) 0201 design, along with various alternative grades. Currently undergoing its startup phase, the machine boasts an advanced automatic inline error detection system.
Utilizing computer-controlled technology, this system ensures high-quality printing and gluing while enhancing precision in die-cutting and folding lines. These innovations not only elevate production quality but also contribute to customer satisfaction, waste reduction, and energy efficiency.
Philip Bautil, Managing Director of DS Smith Benelux, emphasized the company's commitment to meeting customer demands and fostering innovation in sustainable packaging. He highlighted the ongoing trend towards sustainable alternatives and reaffirmed DS Smith's dedication to driving circularity in packaging solutions.
