API Group and its subsidiary, Accredo Packaging, known for manufacturing sustainable packaging solutions in the food and consumer products sectors, have partnered with the Fresh-Lock team at Presto Products, a division of Reynolds Consumer Products. Together, they have unveiled a groundbreaking flexible stand-up pouch, utilizing over 50% Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) content suitable for food packaging across the entire package.
This innovative pouch combines Fresh-Lock’s Child-Guard® slider technology with AccredoFlex recycled content films, achieving an unprecedented percentage of recycled material in both the film and the zipper closure. This collaboration pushes the boundaries of recycled content in food packaging, offering a child-resistant track with at least 25% PCR material while maintaining reliable protection and a recyclable child-safe closure.
Jonathan Quinn, Vice President of Marketing and Sustainability at API Group and Accredo Packaging, emphasizes the importance of collaboration in advancing the circular economy. He states, “The future of the circular economy hinges on incorporating recycled content and being able to do so across all consumer packaged goods markets.”
Todd Meussling, Fresh-Lock Senior Manager Market Development, highlights the significance of the PCR component in achieving true circularity in packaging. He notes, “Flexible packaging continues to make great strides in sustainability beyond just the source reduction benefits from rigids. We’re seeing the shift from multi-material structures to mono-material options that can be recycled or composted.”
The collaboration between Accredo and Presto sets a new standard for incorporating recycled content, emphasizing both safety and sustainability. This initiative reflects the shared commitment of both companies to advancing circular solutions in the packaging industry.
