The cap remains attached to the spout, helping to reduce litter and improve recyclability. It is compatible with Gualapack's spouted pouch fillers, which are widely used across the region, and can be implemented on both new and existing filling lines through the use of a Cap Kit.
The Tethered Cap is available in polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE), and works with hot-fill, cold-fill, and retort applications. It fits all Gualapack pouches with an 8.6mm spout diameter, and comes in two versions: the Standard Cap and the Mood Cap.
According to Gualapack, the cap provides several consumer benefits, including ease of recycling and anti-swallow features, similar to the company’s patented Baby Cap, aimed at ensuring safe use, particularly for baby food. Gualapack also notes that the Tethered Cap can be personalised with different design options to suit brand requirements.
In Oceania, Gualapack’s spouted pouch fillers are sold and serviced by Metalprint Australia. All existing fillers in the region are equipped to use the Cheerpack Tethered Cap without requiring any changes to pouch specifications.
Tethered caps are not yet mandatory in Australia, although environment group, Boomerang Alliance, is calling for this to be legislated.
