Five members of Telford-based aluminium foil tray manufacturers, i2r Packaging Solutions, joined eleven other volunteers for a litter pick in the nearby market town of Wellington, Shropshire. During the clean-up, the team filled thirty-two bin bags with litter, as well as recovering a number of pieces of furniture, including two sofas.
The event, which took place on the 29 April, was organised by the local YMCA as part of the ‘Great British Spring Clean’ initiative by charity Keep Britain Tidy.
Mandie Mulloy, chief executive at YMCA Wellington and District, commented: “We are hugely grateful to all those who were involved, especially those from the i2r team who gave up time within business hours to be part of our ‘love where we live’ clean up. We take pride in bringing the community together to make a social impact that will improve our surroundings for everyone.
“More hands certainly make lighter work, and the quantity of litter collected in such a short time was amazing. We hope our second clean up in August attracts even more support. It will have a more carnival feel, with a barbeque and inflatables creating a community-spirited event for the whole family.”
i2r’s head of sales - UK, Michael Goor, the catalyst behind the team joining the initiative, said: “As a local packaging company, we believe we have a responsibility to give back to our surrounding area. If more businesses and residents got involved in fantastic projects like this one, it would make a significant difference to our environment.
“We look forward to getting involved in more local projects in the future. By giving up a small amount of time we have seen what a big difference we can make.”
