Purina Expands Pyramid-Shaped Cat Food Range as Demand for Premium Pet Meals Grows
Nestlé Purina PetCare is taking its innovative pyramid-shaped wet cat food to new heights, expanding distribution across Europe and the U.S. as part of Nestlé’s strategy to focus on “fewer, bigger, and better” innovations for maximum business impact.
In Europe, Purina is introducing a new jelly-based variant under the Gourmet Revelations brand. This version features finely diced tender cuts suspended in a transparent jelly and comes in three varieties—salmon, chicken, and white fish. The launch spans 15 markets, with a broader rollout planned for 2026 to drive growth and reach more feline fans.
The distinctive pyramid shape, developed with insights from Purina scientists, is designed to encourage cats’ natural eating behaviors—wide bites, lick-bite motions, licking, and chewing—making mealtime both engaging and satisfying. The Gourmet Revelations range already includes a delicate mousse pyramid with cascading gravy, and this latest addition offers a new texture for cats that prefer jelly-based meals.
A key feature of the product is its patented “easy release” packaging, which allows the food to retain its perfect pyramid shape when served—eliminating the need for cutlery and reducing mess.
Meanwhile, in the U.S., Purina is expanding the availability of its mousse-based pyramid, sold under the Fancy Feast Gems brand. Initially launched in select locations, the product will soon be available nationwide at all major retailers.
“We are excited to unveil our latest innovation—a delicious new variant of our pyramid-shaped wet cat food,” said Sheri Smithey, Head of Nestlé R&D for PetCare. “This innovation is rooted in our deep understanding of feline behavior. Many pet owners describe their cats as mousse, gravy, or jelly lovers, and with this new texture, we’re catering to an even wider range of feline connoisseurs.”
Dan Smith, Head of Nestlé’s PetCare global strategic business unit, emphasized the importance of the premium pet food trend: “More than 70% of pet owners see their pets as family members and are looking for ways to show their love through food. Our patented packaging design elevates the serving experience, making mealtime even more special for cat owners and their beloved pets.”
The pyramid-shaped cat food is one of six major innovations Nestlé is betting on for growth in 2025. Pet care remains one of the company’s fastest-growing business sectors, with wet cat food making up 30% of Purina’s global sales. In Europe, where cats often outnumber dogs, premium pet food is a key driver of growth.
With pet populations projected to keep rising—especially among cats and small dogs—Purina’s focus on high-end, science-backed pet nutrition is set to keep both pet owners and their furry companions coming back for more.
