Westfalia France is delivering consumer friendly packaging which eliminates the use of black plastic while being biodegradable and successfully maintaining fruit quality.
The carton packaging is made with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) materials, guaranteeing that the cardboard used has been sourced from forests that are being actively managed to consider people, wildlife and the environment in the long term. The FSC mark means that the trees that are harvested are replaced or allowed to regenerate naturally. The FSC is the only wood certification scheme endorsed by the World Wildlife Fund. Westfalia France have also worked with the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) to deliver the Ready to Eat Packaging.
The heat seal film option includes recyclable plastic, which depending on the consumers location is recyclable with doorstep rubbish collection. The QR code on the left hand side of the pack directs consumers to details of where the consumer can recycle their plastic rubbish, and the QR code on the right links directly to the World Avocado Organisation recipe book to offer innovative recipe ideas.
The project is a great step forward in the Group’s sustainability journey and meeting our objective of eliminating black plastic from packaging and only using widely recyclable materials by 2030.
