Élan Award for Schreiner PrinTrust and Deutscher Sparkassenverlag (DSV)
Oberschleissheim, June 08, 2016 – The prestigious Élan Awards of the International Card Manufacturers Association (ICMA) are presented annually to recognize world-class achievements in the global card industry. The awards focus on design quality and technological innovation. This year the PIN Safe pin protection solution by Schreiner PrinTrust was selected as finalist in the “Best Supplier/Vendor New Product, Service or Innovation” category.
To qualify as an award entry in this category, the product must have been actively utilized this past year. PIN Safe by Schreiner PrinTrust is used by Deutscher Sparkassenverlag (DSV), the central services provider for German savings banks, to mail personal identification numbers for debit and credit cards and has a proven track record of successful use in millions of applications.
Whether criminals attempt to attack the label with heat, cold, solvents or heavily focused light, the two-layer high-security label combines all the key security features and protects PINs from unauthorized viewing. The integrated void effect, security slits, the brand’s hologram and other security technologies ensure maximum safety. Other important aspects of PIN Safe are its attractive look featuring the corporate design of the German savings banks and the unique hologram created for it, which poses an additional hurdle to counterfeiters and also gives the label a high-grade appeal.
While this solution has been successfully used in Germany it is new to the U.S. market. As the migration from mag-stripe cards to Chip & PIN progresses, EMV cards will be introduced in larger numbers in the US. In the last few months, card manufacturers mainly focused on solving technical issues in connection with EMV cards and on learning about new processes necessary to deal with Chip & PIN. However, there is another crucial security step that has not been in focus yet: a secure way to get the PIN to the cardholder.
