The commodity and FMCG industries have observed a global shift in the way products are packaged in a short period of time; whether it was because of hygiene concerns during the coronavirus pandemic or due to growing fears that pushed for sustainability before that.

Global lockdowns in the past two years also espoused eCommerce – a way of life that changed how consumers interacted with sellers in the market and how trade took place at different levels and stages of the economy.

P&G India is among the first few FMCG companies in India that have achieved 'plastic waste neutrality’ by recycling 100% of post-consumer plastic packaging waste

P&G also announced that it will set up in-house solar plants at its Goa and Mandideep manufacturing sites

Amazon Shareholders to Vote on Packaging Materials

Shareholder advocacy firm As You Sow submitted a proposal requesting shareholders vote to have Amazon issue a report on packaging materials, citing the ocean plastics crisis that fatally impacting marine species and damages marine ecosystems.

“Amazon does not disclose how much plastic packaging it uses but is believed to be one of the largest corporate users of flexible plastic packaging, which cannot be recycled,” according to the proposal.

These are all building blocks of the EU Green Deal — and they should also guide our green recovery. To ensure this, we must also secure that European regulation provides a clear and predictable framework to enable us to move in this direction together. Otherwise it may not encourage businesses to invest in the next generation of environmental innovation. And we will lack viable solutions to reach our goals. A pertinent example is the Single-Use Plastics Directive, to be implemented next year.
