in addition to bans on smoking in public places, trans fats and jumbo sodas, new york city mayor michael bloomberg now want to pass a citywide ban on plasticfoam food packaging that is used in cups and trays, and takeout boxes. if passed, the ban would affect bodegas, restaurants and public schools. in the city of chicago, there is no such ban. however, a few years ago, the measure was proposed and failed. many environmental and activist groups, like no foam chicago, are still demanding it. mayor bloomberg talked about this case for new york in his final state of the city address.
