 NFC technology has a lot to offer in smart packaging applications – it can be used for tamper evidence, secure authentication, end-to-end traceability, and easy re-ordering.

In the case of pharmaceutical products it can also connect the patient to instructions, video and audio guides, help lines, social media support groups, and even to their doctor or clinician.

30-year-old Adnan Ali Khan, a resident of Pinjoora village in Shopian, has now emerged as a local hero by setting up a supply chain that ensures fair prices to farmers by helping them sell their products online.

Khan is a fourth-generation farmer from his family who completed engineering and MBA and is now doing his PhD on “value addition, planning and marketing of Kashmiri products”. He launched his online venture that delivers Kashmiri apples to the doorstep upon receiving orders online.

The first-generation prototype consists of a paper shell with a 100% recycled plastic closure and liner inside. The next step, Franssen, says, is to create a paper bottle without the plastic liner.

Franssen’s team is conducting extensive lab testing at The Coca-Cola Company’s Brussels-based R&D center to assess how the paper bottle performs, holds up and protects its contents while refrigerated and in other scenarios.

The cost of accreditation and current price of PRNs means that it is not financially viable for some of the UK’s smaller plastics recycling businesses to get accredited under the scheme. Under the terms of the agreement, Valpak will work with Aylesbury Granulation to ensure accreditation costs are covered through PRN purchases. In return, Valpak has agreed an exclusive supply deal for the PRNs produced by the company.

Purchases under the NCIB will be made through the facilities of the TSX and/or alternative Canadian trading systems in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, during the twelve-month period commencing on December 23, 2020 and ending on or before December 22, 2021. The average daily trading volume of the common shares on the TSX for the six calendar months ending November 30, 2020 was 344,426 common shares.

Flip Lid meets requirements of proposed regulations in Europe and AB 319 California in the USA, which requires plastic closures to remain attached to containers, thereby increasing the number of closures being collected and recycled.
