When pet adoptions soared in the wake of COVID-19, there was an increased demand for pet food, resulting in a large volume of pet food packaging waste.

According to the Pet Sustainability Coalition, 300 million pounds of pet food and treat bags are generated in the United States every year and over 99% of those bags are not recycled. Walmart Inc., in collaboration with international recycling leader, TerraCycle, is doing something to reduce these numbers.

Apart from being compostable themselves, labels produced from materials coated with the new adhesive can allow all of a product’s packaging, consisting of paper or board for example, to be composted. Its low application weight also makes certain of reliable processing and trouble-free converting.  
 

What is 1Less?

1Less is a Berlin-based start-up that has made it its mission to fight plastic waste. To do so, they have developed a special system to help solve the plastic problem, particularly at large events, at trade fairs and in shopping centers.

GO-Orleans intends to valorize the whey obtained as residue in the production of cheese through the development of natural active additives for incorporation in the packaging , which will extend the useful life of the cheese between 25 and 50%. In addition, they will be incorporated as natural probiotics in feed, in order to improve animal welfare.

This adjustment has already been implemented on some packaging in recent times, and the companies say that it appears to be workable for the consumer. That is why this step is now being implemented on all multipacks.

Most consumers will have consciously or unconsciously held the handles - also called carrying loops or handylifts. They are on the multipacks in which, for example, four or six large bottles of soft drinks or water are sold in supermarkets.

Delamere Dairy has relaunched its main fresh goats milk line in a new SIG Combidome packaging format.

The Cheshire-based speciality milk supplier said the format – a relatively new concept for UK retailers – combined the functionality and pourability of a bottle, while also offering the environmental credentials of the gable top cartons it had previously used.
