Wayne, PA – TekniPlex Healthcare, which utilizes advanced materials science expertise to help deliver better patient outcomes, has invested in new medical tubing extrusion lines along with downstream equipment as part of an expansion to its production facility in Cartago, Costa Rica. The multi-stage project will bolster manufacturing capacity and capabilities while adding approximately 40,000 square feet of combined assembly and warehousing space.

Its aim has unswervingly been to harmonize the varying measures taken by member nations concerning the management of packaging and packaging waste and to provide a high level of environmental protection. It also obligates member nations to meet targets for recovery and recycling and penalizes them for non-compliance. 

Since its initial inception, it has undergone many revisions and appendages. Some of these were received with open arms and other were not.

The future of whiskey packaging design — the exceptionally deep future — has materialized, in the form of a Romulan Ale Rye whiskey bottle.

The distinctive, extraterrestrial beverage packaging duplicates the details of the prop bottle for Romulan Ale, a spirit first seen in the film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The real-life rye, a premium-quality spirit, is colored deep blue to mimic the fictional ale.

Evonik’s PEEK Filament Used in First 3D-Printed Spinal Implants in US

A 3D-printed device developed by Curiteva incorporating PEEK filament from Evonik was surgically implanted last week in Allentown, PA. It’s the first time a 3D-printed interconnected porous PEEK structure made with VestaKeep i4 3DF filament has been implanted in the United States, according to Evonik. The 3D-printed implant received 510(k) clearance from FDA in February 2023, the first such device cleared by the agency for commercial use.

Bournvita row: NCPCR asks health drink brand to withdraw misleading ads, packaging labels

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has asked Mondelez International India, which makes health drink Bournvita, to review and withdraw all misleading advertisements, packaging and labels related to the milk supplement citing non-adherence to mandatory disclosure of its sugar content.  

In a notice to the confectionery major, NCPCR has asked it to send within seven days a detailed explanation or report to apprise the panel on the matter.

Aldi enters Refill Coalition to reduce single-use plastic packaging

The Refill Coalition announced that supermarket chain Aldi has joined its industry partners in order to fight against the use of single-use plastic packaging in the market.

The Refill Coalition is Aldi, British grocery firm Ocado, retailer Waitrose & Partners and the supply chain solutions company CHEP.

It was convened in 2020 by a UK-based firm Unpackaged with funding from UK Research & Innovation’s Smart Plastics Packaging Challenge.

The Refill Coalition co-designs and develops refill solutions that minimise and remove the use of single-use plastic.
