Octapharma, like other pharmaceutical manufacturers, typically uses fully automatic dispensing systems for labeling large production volumes of its primary containers. For smaller batch sizes and a large variety of sorts, for instance serving smaller markets and different language versions, or for clinical trial drugs, this is highly uneconomical. That is why the labels are often applied manually—a time-consuming job that may not produce consistent quality.
Octapharma was seeking a faster as well as a precise and professional solution–and found it in the semi-automatic dispensing system designed by Schreiner MediPharm and the Schreiner Services competence center. The customized labeling system can be adapted individually to different container sizes, diameters, and shapes. It is easy to operate, allows for fast changeovers, and requires minimal space due to its compact design.
The pharmaceutical company is already using several of these dispensing systems. “We are able to label all products from the smallest vials to large bottles efficiently at high and, above all, consistent levels of quality. Compared to previous manual application processes, this reduces the workload of our employees noticeably. As a result, handling of small batch sizes has been professionalized and become clearly more economical,” sums up Brigitta Nehrer, Production Management and Deputy Head of Visual Inspection & Packaging Operations from Octapharma.
