Greiner Packaging partners with SABIC to create first bouillon packaging made from circular polymer for Unilever

Greiner Packaging has already been testing various recycled materials for some time to determine their suitability for the production of its cardboard-plastic combinations. Now, the company has selected certified circular polypropylene from SABIC’s TRUCIRCLETM portfolio to realize a test project for Unilever. SABIC’s material uses post-consumer mixed plastic as feedstock which is broken down into its molecular building blocks, to create virgin plastics which are then used to produce these new recyclable tubs and lids.

Bamboo fibre cups launched for hot drinks

The cups, which come under the firm’s EnviroWare brand, are made from FSC-certified bamboo fibre – with a water-based lining – and are certified commercially compostable.

“Ever since we created the EnviroWare brand over 14 years ago, it has been our mission to seek out more sustainable packaging solutions, and these are our most sustainable hot drink cups yet,” said MD Nick Burton.

Cancer is one of the most frequent causes of death worldwide. In many industrial nations, cancer has even begun to outnumber cardiovascular diseases. Annual investments in cancer research have been increasing accordingly. Virotherapy is a novel approach. It is an immunotherapy in which patients receive injections with oncolytic viruses. These viruses infect tumor cells and can thus selectively destroy malignant cells. The Chinese company Yuan Song Biotechnology is engaged in virotherapy research.

All rotary feeders in this series already comply with the new Machinery Directive 2000/42 / EC that has been in force since December 29, 2009. In the risk assessment required therein, the microbiological, physical and chemical requirements were also taken into account. The GMP / FDA requirements and DIN EN 1672-2 are met with measures such as product-contact (inside) ground, surface quality according to the desired Ra value, all welds free of gaps, optionally electropolished, free of dead spaces.

Coca-Cola HK and City Plaza raise awareness of proper recycling with new 'Recycle Bar'

Opening from 2 until 11 June, the "Recycle Bar" is decorated with more than 30 pieces of bar furniture made out of 18,000 plastic bottles by 3D-printing, and with a collection of rPET turned everyday items that is exhibited on spot. Visitors are encouraged to recycle used PET bottles for redemption of free beverages and rPET-made souvenirs.

Lumene launches biobased packaging

Finnish beauty brand Lumene has launched a biobased packaging with both the jar and label made with UPM’s wood-based material, further processed by Sabic. 

Lumene’s new jar and the self-adhesive label originate from renewable UPM BioVerno naphtha, produced by UPM in Finland. The naphtha is processed into certified renewable polypropylene by Sabic, a chemical industry specialist, and then converted both into commonly recyclable cosmetics containers and product labels printed on UPM Raflatac Forest Film label material.
