Plum organics has introduced what it says is one of the first plastic pouches for baby food on the u.s. Market, a format the company is using to combat fears of bisphenol a in baby bottles. The resealable, 4oz polyethylene pouches can dispense the liquid food onto a spoon, eliminating the need for a bottle or crosscontamination from doubledipping into a glass jar. The softsided pouches have a much shorter cooking time to prepare food than traditional jars, gently pureeing the food in the pouch until smooth, said plum organics founder gigi lee chang. At the 2009 global pouch forum, baby food was identified as a potential growth area that could lead to sharp penetration from pouches. The convertersinvolved with new yorkbased plum organics in the package launch were not identified by the company. Plum organics&rsquo new pouched baby food sells for about 1.29 a package, slightly more than a glass jar.
