The plastic and card packaging has been replaced with a cardboard alternative, making it easier for customers to recycle at home as the materials do not need to be separated.
Shoppers will see the new packaging on Aldi’s two-packs of Dentitex Soft and Whitening toothbrushes.
The supermarket, which claims it is increasingly shoppers’ main supermarket for their weekly shop, says the move will help to remove around 17 tonnes of plastic packaging every year.
Major supermarkets are increasingly making changes instore to cut the amount of non-recyclable waste on their own-brand products.
Aldi recently updated its toilet paper to make every roll go further, reduce plastic waste and cut back on the number of lorries needed to deliver stock.
It also introduced its own-brand flat, fully-recycled plastic wine bottles.
Aldi plastics and packaging director Luke Emery said: “Reducing plastic is a huge priority for us at Aldi, and we know how important it is to our customers too.
“We are continuously looking for innovative ways to modify our packaging, and making this change on our toothbrushes is another step forward in our ongoing work to remove plastic where possible.”
