germanybased cd cartondruck has won pro carton ecma award 2014 under the beauty & cosmetics category for the packaging design of issey miyake&rsquos pleats please l&39élixir ladies perfume.cd cartondruck used algro design solution from sappi, a global company focused on providing dissolving wood pulp, paper pulp and paperbased solutions, to develop the perfume packaging, which featured creative use of pleats in every presentational element.the carton of pleats please l&39élixir features a pleated top, wrapped in a pleated bag and packaging printed showing pleats. the external packaging is embossed to lend a feel of pleats on both the product and the packaging.the awards jury found l&39élixir&39s design to be elegant, clearly recognizable, simple and effective.the jury said that the product brand was well displayed with its trademark filigree flower image running across the front and one side of the carton, with the bold red and white colours and matte feel lending style and sophistication to the carton."this carton features intricate embossing that attracts the eye of the consumer while converging with the branding messaging. it expresses both the clear, natural style of the brand as well as luxurious elegance. the finishing with multilevel embossing and a matte lacquer requires considerable experience and technical precision."commenting on the win, sappi&39s product group manager rigid packaging lars scheidweiler said "the ability for creative packaging designers to push boundaries must be supported by a cartonboard grade that can handle a wide range of production demands, from high quality print to embossing."cd cartondruck chose algro design to help it meet brand expectations, confident that it would not only perform but support a standout design that proves that packaging can deliver magical results."in its 17th year, pro carton ecma award is europe&39s leading award for packaging made of cartonboard.
