Constar international has received a major endorsement from the u.s. Food & drug administration fda in its quest to market a monolayer pet bottle that offers full clarity and barrier protection. Constar&rsquos recently updated diamondclear oxygen scavenging technology was cleared by the fda for food and beverage products, after about 12 months of waiting. While the fda approved diamondclear&rsquos original formulation in january 2007, the new technology eliminates haze and further enhances barrier protection. The approval will allow constar to add the scavenging technology to all its bottles, offering what pleune called the first fdaapproved scavenger that also provides full clarity. The company hopes to go after applications in glass packaging &ndash including pasta sauces, salsas, and table wines &ndash where glass has a strong position, he added. Dairy applications also could be an emerging market opportunity. Constar&rsquos original diamondclear scavenger already has been successful with hunt&rsquos ketchup and with several wine products. The use of pet bottles in barrier applications is increasing. Ball just announced that sutter home winery will offer pet bottles for its entire line of 187ml wines in the united states. The bottles use ball&rsquos plasmax siliconoxide coating, assisting with both clarity and protection.
