food packaging manufacturer estpak plastik, which operates a plant on estonia&rsquos offshore island of hiiumaa, is planning to build a new mainland production unit near the capital tallinn.estpak, a film extruder and thermoformed tray producer is a major packaging supplier to the meat processing industry and is expanding its export business to nordic countries including denmark, finland and sweden.it intends to maintain its island plant in hiiumaa&rsquos main city kärdla when the new facility opens next year at the village of jälgimäe in the saku area in north western estonia, according to estpak&rsquos board chairman marek harjaku.the family owned company has not disclosed its investment in constructing the second operation, but the facility has a 4,500 square metre area and will create 25 new jobs. around 65 of its packaging output is sold abroad to the other baltic states and to its nordic neighbours.a new plant was essential, not only because of increased production volumes, but also because having to ship more output from the island to the mainland was no longer economically viable, the firm said.estpak makes a range of standard plastic trays and other containers in polypropylene, apet, polystyrene and ops as well as providing customers with a bespoke packaging service. the firm recently installed a second extrusion line to supply its own growing demand for packaging film.
