a fire consumed an apple storage and packaging plant in lloyd today, causing a multimillion dollar loss and prompting a response from 19 fire departments in ulster, dutchess and orange counties.flames were shooting from the a. zimmerman & son orchards facility on station road when the clintondale fire department responded after receiving an alert at 347 a.m., said first assistant chief rick brooks. seven propane tanks caused explosions. no one was injured. the fire occurred in the town of lloyd, but in the clintondale fire district.heavy winds and a temperature of 9 degrees greeted firefighters, and the cold caused some water valves to freeze, brooks said. trucks were rotated in and out of use because of the cold.from dutchess, the hughsonville fire department responded to the scene while the fairview fire department remained on call at the highland fire department.brooks said the cause of the fire could not be determined. a. zimmerman orchards has been operating since 1952.
