mobile, alabama police jailed a man and a woman tuesday afternoon after investigators said a credit card was stolen and used 21 different times.at the time of his arrest james michael newburn, 34, was out on bail on one count of thirddegree theft by deception. newburn was arrested by mobile county deputies on dec. 9, mobile county metro jail records show.according to a deposition filed in court by the alleged victim, a man met newburn on nov. 30 after responding to a craigslist ad for an ipad mini. newburn agreed to meet the man at a gas station and sold him the ipad mini and an iphone 4s for 300."i gave him 300 and asked him to count it while i opened boxes to make sure the items were correct," the man wrote in his deposition. "as i was cutting boxes open, he said he had to go to church and left. i opened the ipad box and found a paper notebook."according to a complaint filed in court, the iphone box contained melted wax.on tuesday police arrested newburn on 21 counts of fraudulent use of a credit card and one count each of identity theft, seconddegree theft and thirddegree theft by deception.his fiancee, 34yearold ashley anne fairchild, was arrested on 17 counts of fraudulent use of a credit card in connection to the case, said mobile police department spokeswoman ashley rains."during the investigation, additional victims were discovered to have been deceived by newburn by purchasing advertised electronics on craigslist and receiving packaged household items," rains said.anyone who believes they may have fallen prey to newburn&39s alleged scheme can contact mpd at 2512087211 or call the department&39s fourth precinct at 2512081300.
