mwv&rsquos Work in foodservice includes recycled content in its paperboardbased hot beverage cups. Mwv is mixing innovation with new marketing initiatives for its line of foodservice packaging materials, branding those products mware. The company is using the branding effort to further collaboration with converters and operators in the use of foodservice packaging that eliminates fossilfuel materials and builds recognition for its innovation efforts, said dobbie newman, mwv director of food service marketing. The company has been moving along that path since the early part of this decade. The company claims to be the first paperboard maker to launch a foodservicegrade postconsumer recycled fiber cup for hot beverages and introduced a series of paperboardbased cups, trays, bowls, and containers coated with polylactic acid pla material. Using the resources of mwv&rsquos raleigh, ncbased center for packaginginnovation, the company hopes to increase the amount of foodservice packaging from paper. Currently, about 30 percent of north american foodservice packaging segments that meadwestvaco participates in are made from paperbased substrates, newman noted.
