The miswak is a dental cleaning twig used mainly in the middle east, pakistan and india. Traditionally, the end is bitten every time and reveals the soft bristles similar to those of a toothbrush. The new packaging project was aimed to rehabilitate and promote the miswak as an alternative organic, biodegradable, portable, and cheaper than toothpaste and a toothbrush. The biggest challenge was how to package and market the branch to a contemporary american audience, which would not be amused at the idea of biting the end of the stick to use it. The solution for this is a plugtype cigar cutter that helps to loosen the outer layer and reveal the natural bristle. The packaging also protects the stick of germs and microbes.
