There’s a good chance that at least one in your life, you’ll have been eating a bag of crisps or something similar and noticed that there are a load of mysterious coloured circles on the packaging.
Look – we grabbed a packet of Walkers crisps to double check, and there they are!
But what are they for? Is it a secret message from another life form? Are aliens trying to make contact with us using a series of brightly coloured dots? Should we be worried? Well, according to one TikTok user, these have absolutely nothing to do with aliens, so you can relax.
Sonya Gonzalez Mier works in food marketing, and has taken to TikTok to explain once and for all what the meaning behind the circles is, and it’s all to do with the colour of the packaging.
She starts the video by saying, “I work in food marketing, and we have these colour patches on all our packaging.
“No, they're not barcodes, no they're not a mysterious sign.
“They are colour control patches, which we need because the colours that you see on the packaging are not actually the colours that we're printing. Let me explain... to choose the colours that you see on the packaging, we actually layer colours and the colour patches are the colours we are layering on top of each other to achieve the colours you see.
“To make sure the colours are correct, we look at the colour control patches and if they're slightly off, we know that the whole packaging will be off.”
So there you have it – another mystery solved!
