RECOUP’s work encompasses a wide range of topics related to plastics recycling and resource efficiency; subjects also a priority at Zotefoams. Throughout its history, Zotefoams has been at the forefront of developments in sustainable materials that save energy by insulating or save fuel costs by reducing weight. Zotefoams strategically prioritises key markets where there is the greatest opportunity to improve circularity or reduce reliance on fossil fuel-derived raw materials and innovates within this space. This drive for sustainable development matches the commitments of RECOUP and its membership base, which includes manufacturers of plastic packaging and products, retailers, brands, plastic recyclers and reprocessors, waste management organisations, local authorities and universities.
Zotefoams’ latest sustainable innovation is ReZorce® Circular Packaging – a fully recyclable HDPE mono-material barrier packaging range and the first viable alternative to composite barrier packaging. ReZorce is the subject of a Joint Development Agreement with a major global player in beverage packaging and trials with a major European retailer, replacing Liquid Packaging Board (LPB) for juice cartons, are planned for early this year.
ReZorce provides a solution which is easy to recycle via standard household collection and has a significantly lower environmental impact, without compromising on any of the performance of an LPB carton.
The material’s patented multi-layer structure enables recycled plastic to be incorporated within its core, in line with targets set out in the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive.
Neil Court-Johnston, President, MuCell Extrusion LLC at Zotefoams, comments,
“Sustainability drives everything we do at Zotefoams and we are constantly striving to offer customers an optimal material solution for the benefit of society across a vast range of applications and industries. It is fantastic to have joined the RECOUP membership base. We know we are in good company and are looking forward to collaborating with our new colleagues as we work together on our mission to support the sustainable use of plastics. Our 2024 commercial launch of ReZorce is just one example of the work we are doing across our global business as part of that mission, and we are confident that it will make a significant contribution to securing a circular future for plastic packaging”.
Stuart Foster, CEO at RECOUP says,
“We are excited to have Zotefoams join us as a member of RECOUP. We need to work with as many people as possible to help us achieve our aims of a sustainable and circular economy, something that Zotefoams and their ReZorce circular packaging solution can help make a reality. We look forward to working closely with Zotefoams going forward and creating a collaborative relationship”.
