Hello Packaging Friends,
We at Packaging Connections continuously thrive to work on something different and this time we are targeting an important yet a very confusing topic "sustainability".
When we use this term, most of the people refer it to as something which is "degradable" or "made of natural resources" but actually the term is very wide. Simply saying a material is degradable doesn’t make it sustainable and vice versa.
We are in the process of understanding this topic which could be further used to help packaging industry in lot many ways. Of course we need your help for doing this since there is a lot of information available in bits and pieces with many of us. So bringing these pieces together may help in solving the puzzle and understand the mystery, myths, facts and confusions related to the topic "SUSTAINABILITY".
We have created a small survey with some related questions and doubts. I hope the masters from packaging industry shall help us by filling in the survey with their knowledge and databank. Here is the link - https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/sustainablepack
Thanks & Regards

Why KPO - Packaging Testing?
Packaging Testing is an important parameter for every packaging company, be it a supplier or a design company or an end user. Everyone needs their products to be tested at some point of the time (project) for the right packaging parameters and specifications.
The scenario is such that the multinationals have their own testing labs and their own procedures to perform tests so they either do it in-house or use outsourced labs to get the testing done.
When it comes to large, medium and small scale packaging industries (supplier, user companies or even students) they are solely dependent on outsourced labs. However, there are many challenges like longer lead times, incorrect test results or even un- awareness about the labs that can do the tests.
At Packaging Connections, we work towards creating awareness and providing our best services to our friends in packaging sector. We even get lot of inquiries asking for “which labs are there to perform packaging testing” or “do you provide testing facilities” or “I want to test for specifications of my packaging, any suggestions”. Similarly, there are many queries that we get from across the world”.

Tantra a word typically used in India in many ways. The more its used by spiritually inclined people. There are various things like Yantra, Tantra and Mantra in India for understanding the life and beyond, for attaining ultimate peace called Nirvana.
So for me, Tantra of packaging available here. Tantra literally means “to weave”. Or you can say it implies “interweaving of traditions and teachings as threads” into a text, technique or practice.
This is what I saw at Interpack, this was full of people from different cultures all over the world, so many people, so many machines, so many booths, so many materials, so many processes, so many innovations and so many and so many. They all were brought together by Interpack and that’s the reason I call it Tantra of Packaging.
Our key findings from the show were:
Bioplastics and green packaging solutions
Automation for higher productivity, reduction of errors
Use of robotics
Softwares like ERP, testing, simulation
Focus on serialisation implementation
Digital printing
Options to increase product shelf life
Recruitment of Packaging professionals in an organized manner
And then there was some focus on packaging education but I think this should have been better.
Only disappointing thing for us was a bit discouraging/unfriendly behaviours by couple of companies towards visitors when they asked for details. I do not want to name the company but it was not nice. Visitors are there to make the show successful and so they got to be treated with dignity. Of course, visitors should also maintain the decorum. I am not sure if I should be mentioning this here but I could not stop myself reporting the truth at such a big show, its an expensive show bit for participating as well as for visiting. This was a shock for me as this has never happened with me in past but I guess it is natural when so many people come together and jump for information which is not easily available. So I guess it needs the framing of Code of Conduct at the show by organizers to make it more friendly. This is specially more important when they are expanding by way of Interpack Alliance in different parts of the world.
I was personally happy to see the progress of Flex to Uflex doing so great, Mr Ashok Chaturvedi had same friendly welcome as he had 25 hears back. I met him now after 12 years and he had all the time for me and that’s what I liked about him that he is always available,
