MGA Entertainment, Inc. (MGA), the largest and fastest growing privately held toy company in the U.S., today announced that in April the company will begin to produce their globally recognized and highly popular L.O.L. Surprise!™ iconic spherical packaging using sustainable materials, like bamboo, wood, sugar cane and other natural materials, in place of plastic. The new spheres are compostable and do not include plastic wrapping. Launching with the first of these sustainable spheres is the all new L.O.L.

A month ago, nations came together at UNEA-5.2 in Nairobi and agreed to begin work on a legally binding agreement to tackle plastic waste. This was seen as a significant step forward by the businesses and organizations that had called for a UN treaty leading up to the outcome.

To get the inside story on these updates, we caught up with Gian de Belder, technical director of R&D packaging sustainability at Procter & Gamble.

P&G’s Lenor brand has unveiled two new packaging innovations. To start us off, could you tell us about the first one?

When re-designing two tubes of its Almond collection, L’Occitane en Provence was seeking a resource-friendly solution and teamed up with cosmetic tubes specialist Albéa and polymer supplier LyondellBasell.

Molecular recycling
Both tubes were made from LyondellBasell’s CirculenRevive polymers, which are produced using an advanced molecular recycling process to convert plastic waste into feedstock to produce new polymers.

SimpliCycle was selected among 440 entries for its impact on sustainability, innovation, and high-performance dispensing.
