New technology turns flexible packaging waste into pyrolytic oil for food-grade plastics

This significant step marks the first time Greenback’s modular chemical recycling technology is hosted by a global packaging leader in Europe. The partnership with Amcor aims to showcase the potential for co-locating modular recycling units within existing industrial infrastructure — bringing the circular economy closer to reality. The module’s installation at Heanor will provide important learnings for scaling circularity as it will predominantly convert household post-consumer flexible packaging waste.

Greenback’s advanced recycling technology is designed to process post-consumer flexible packaging, including multilaminate materials, and convert it into high-quality pyrolytic oil, suitable for producing food-grade plastics.

Greiner Packaging has long offered sealing lids that eliminate the need for a third component – a foil lid. By reducing the materials from three to two components, both the cup and the lid can be made from the same material, such as PP or PET. This saves resources, simplifies the packaging process, and improves recyclability. With the Click In sealing lid, Greiner Packaging is taking it a step further – setting new benchmarks in flexibility, safety, and environmental responsibility.

Mondi partners Proquimia to launch paper-based, stand-up pouches for dishwasher tabs

Utilising Mondi’s re/cycle FunctionalBarrier Paper 95/5, the solution may be on track to replace previously used plastic solutions. The stand-up pouches contain 20 water-soluble dishwashing tabs. Using the zipper located across the top, each pack can be easily opened and closed whilst in an upright position. This provides enhanced printing properties, resulting in “attractive” packaging and fulfilling the users’ requirements.

Cats love pyramids! Purina expands innovative cat food range

In Europe, a new variant made of a transparent jelly with finely diced tender cuts in three varieties, with salmon, with chicken or white fish, will be launched across 15 markets under the Purina Gourmet Revelations brand. There are plans to roll out further in 2026 to reach scale and drive growth.

The new cat food was developed with insights from Purina scientists into the impact of the product shape, which suggested that the jelly pyramid shape could encourage the full range of natural wide bite, lick-bite, lick and chew behaviors in cats.

Asahi Group’s 2025 sustainability report highlights its commitments to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

The company is reshaping its supply chain and moving towards more renewable energy sourcing, as well as to more sustainable packaging.

Asahi’s short term targets include a 40% cut in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2025, and a 70% reduction by 2030, as well as cutting Scope 3 emissions by 30% by 2030.

To do this, the company will be working closely with suppliers to ensure traceable sustainability throughout its supply chain.

Amcor partners with Tip Top to introduce bread bags with 30% recycled plastic

These innovative bags, which began rolling out in September 2024, are now available across Tip Top The One, Tip Top The One Gluten Free, and Tip Top 9 Grain loaves in major retailers across Australia. This industry-first initiative for the Australian sliced packaged bread aisle will help remove 160 tons of virgin plastic by December 2025. It builds on Tip Top’s commitment to sustainable packaging, following its introduction of 100% recycled and recyclable cardboard bread tags in 2020, which eliminated 140 million pieces of single-use plastic annually.
