a dutch company holland colors has developed a slip agent that promises to reduce scuff marks and scratches on rigid pet packaging. according to company reports its holcoslip reduces the coefficient of friction of pet during preform production. this provides easier release of the preform from the injection mold cavity to prevent scratches and drop marks from preforms falling into the octabin, the octagonal corrugated bulk box normally used to accept molded preforms. company claims that holcoslip can be used at lower dosage levels in pet resin than conventional products. the additive is biobased, foodcontact safe and does not cause discoloration or otherwise affect conversion of the pet preform into a bottle, according to the company. holland also claims the additive allows more efficient filling of the octabin so that as many as 10 percent more bottles can be stored in the bin.
