Designed for the ThinkPad Z series (z13/z16) with a strong focus on sustainability, ThinkPad launches a new era of highly sustainable and completely plastic-free packaging.
For its innovative and sustainable design, the ThinkPad Z-series Plastic Free Packaging has recently been awarded a 2022 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
There are two sizes for 13″ display products and 16″ display products, with a total four types of packages.
One is for individual consumers (retail package), which includes a bamboo & sugarcane fiber molded gift box, and the other is a more simplified version for businesses (standard package).
The gift box for the retail package is made of molded fiber and is compostable, while the wet-press mold ensures its aesthetic appearance.
Corrugated cardboard is adopted as protective material, securing high cushioning performance in combination with the bamboo and sugarcane fiber molded gift box.
For the standard package, the bamboo and sugarcane fiber molded gift box is omitted.
The bamboo & sugarcane fiber molded cushion, with the same wet-press mold, is used to ensure the necessary cushioning performance.
The paper bag and kraft paper envelope are adopted to protect the product and to hold manuals.
These concepts are designed to be widely used for the ThinkPad packaging and will be deployed to all of them.
