Katol MLA Charansingh Thakur, who is also a member of the marketing board’s board of directors, confirmed that the tender process will begin soon. The state government will contribute 50% of the cost, while the respective market committees will fund the remaining amount.
Each packaging unit will be built on two acres of land, secured and owned by the market committees, near existing markets. The facilities will include infrastructure such as roads, water supply, cold storage, pre-cooling chambers, and loading/unloading platforms. Additionally, the units will have modern assembly lines for cutting, grading, sorting, waxing, and packaging oranges.
This initiative is expected to help local farmers by offering better storage and packaging options, improving the overall quality and export potential of Vidarbha’s oranges.
