three years after its establishment at the first save foodcongress, the save food initiative has already grown into abroadbased international alliance with over 110 members. thesecond save food congress takes up this idea and provides anetwork of representatives from the field of politics, the food andpackaging industry, business, research and civil society. in awideranging programme with competent and distinguishedspeakers, diverse aspects of the problem will be highlighted andsolution approaches outlined. the congress offers participants aforum for the mutual exchange of ideas, for work projects and theidentification and analysis of best practices. the twodaycongress begins the day before interpack and therefore will takeplace on 7 and 8 may 2014 at the exhibition grounds of projectfusions, and james lomax, programme officer agrifood atthe un environment programme unep, will present the activitiesof the major international organizations in relation to the issue offood waste and loss. robert van otterdijk, agroindustry officer ofthe food and agriculture organization fao, will demonstrate,based on case studies from kenya, how food loss in developingand emerging countries can be effectively combated. tristramstuart, founder of the campaign &ldquofeeding the 5000 will explainhow food, which would ultimately have ended up on the rubbishtip, can still feed many people. panel discussions will includespeakers such as steven t. sonka, emeritus professor of theuniversity of illinois, who will be talking about lossfree agriculture,jeffrey d. klein, president of the global foodbanking network,who will be discussing the positive work of the die tafeln e.v. 2 3initiative, and selina juul, initiator of &ldquostop wasting food&rdquo, whowill be speaking about the opportunities for consumers to actagainst food waste. solutions for africa will be presented amongstothers by adrian van der knaap from the un world foodprogramme and wafaa el khoury from the international fund foragriculture development .the second day of the congress will deal with best practice casesfrom industry and individual companies. primarily businessrepresentatives will be given the opportunity here to comment andwill participate in panel discussions. speakers from industrypartners such as tetrapak, dow, maersk and nestlé will bepresenting their successful case studies. the
