This is the question hit me one day, that Do we really need packaging? If yes, then why and if no, again why?  Thinking about it, we started a Poll at Linkedin and started getting interesting results and comments. You too can give your opinion and comments. The link is http://linkd.in/iiswLt  It would be interesting to see what comes out.

I strongly feel that its important that we question the vary basic existence of ourselves and so as a packaging professional, I thought to question myself: Do we really need packaging?

Does fish need water? Do cricketers need abdomen guards? Can water be carried without a container? Can i hold a 1000 peanuts in two fingers? Yes we do need packaging !!!!!!

Monika Shrestha • What if a high quality product is produced but the ultimate consumer will not get it in factory fresh condition.....? Of course we need packaging...!! to increase the shelf life of product...to preserve...protect......promote the Product.......we do need packaging....!!

Per-Stefan Gersbro • Our modern society would grind to a halt within days without packaging. Waste in any distributed item, particularly food, would become unbearable without packaging. So, YES, we definitely need packaging.

Core purpose of packaging is to protect the inside material, ease of handling and promotion. we do tend to forget promotional aspect of packaging, innovative/ eye catching packaging helps in attracting customers in this clutter market place. The bottom line is YES we do need packaging so that products are reached to the target audience with ease.
