Amazon to deliver all European shipments in recyclable packaging

Amazon has today announced that all items it sells in Europe, as well as those distributed by third-party partners using its Fulfilment by Amazon service, will be delivered in recyclable boxes, bags, and envelopes.

The e-commerce giant today claimed that all flexible paper bags, cardboard envelopes, and corrugated cardboard boxes are now compatible with household recycling services. It also confirmed the number of items shipped without additional packaging had fallen by more than 50 per cent over the past year.

Versuni introduces 100% recycled and recyclable paper packaging across its Philips portfolio

Consumers may in turn dispose of the cardboard responsibly as the paper is also 100% recyclable. To have the widest impact, the new packaging will first be applied to Versuni’s top performing Philips home appliances – including the Philips Airfryer, Espresso Machine with LatteGo, Steam Iron 3000 series, Air Purifier and Cordless Vacuum 8000 series. It will then extend across the full portfolio in the coming years. Additionally, single-use plastic inside the packaging will be replaced with more sustainable alternatives across the full Philips portfolio globally within four years.

Bengaluru-based Bambrew develops unique recycled paper with better strength

Bengaluru-based sustainability-based packaging solutions start-up Bambrew has developed a unique recycled paper whose strength has been increased at least six times by infusing cotton fabric in between and can recycled more than once, said Vaibhav Anant, the company’s founder. 

The paper, which is recycled, has been developed through a proprietary process and Bambrew has filed for a patent for its innovation, he told businessline.

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has made a strategic investment of €1.5 million in its CelluloseFilms pilot facility, a pivotal move towards addressing the sustainability challenges posed by one of the most ubiquitous plastics used in the food industry. This facility is geared to scale up production methods for renewable cellulose alternatives designed to replace traditional plastic film in food packaging.

The launch is a key focus of Hero’s ongoing sustainability strategy, as the company strives to build a better environment to meet the needs of tomorrow. Consumers can now purchase Cassis juices in one of the most sustainable packaging solutions – SIG carton packs with SIG Terra Forest-based polymers packaging material, which has a carbon footprint up to 51% lower than a standard SIG pack*.
