Building on the success of previous Amcor Lift-Off editions that have fostered partnerships and investments with pioneering companies in areas such as artificial intelligence-powered waste analytics, reusable packaging and bio-based materials, the Amcor Lift-Off Winter 2025/26 Challenge will focus on critical research and development priorities for flexible and paper-based packaging. Start-ups are encouraged to submit solutions that address one of three key areas:

Alupro launches ‘Munch, Scrunch, Recycle!’ Easter campaign

Over the next few weeks, almost 90 million Easter eggs will be sold in the UK, most of which are likely to be wrapped in recyclable aluminium foil. To maximise kerbside capture rates, Alupro’s campaign aims to influence best practice recycling behaviours and drive positive change.

Local authority representatives are encouraged to download a range of free, ready-to-use resources through the Alupro Resource Library. The resources, which include static and animated social media graphics , are specifically designed to promote foil recycling.

WRAP recommends 8 new plastic packaging items for elimination

When the Pact launched in 2018, eight plastic items were prioritised for elimination. This initial list helped members get ahead of regulatory bans and led to the removal of billions of problematic plastic items from sale or distribution.

UK Plastics Pact members represent two-thirds of all consumer plastic packaging used in the UK.

The eight new problem plastics set for elimination should support Simpler Recycling reforms in England by phasing out materials that cannot be recycled or disrupt recycling processes.

The Octopus Prestige stretch wrapper uses a top-down design, so all maintenance areas of the machine can be lowered down to floor level. It has a Double-S film carriage system that allows for stable loads while reducing film consumption, an integrated top sheet dispenser with floor level access for film roll change, as well as Signode’s RollCycler film roll changing system that can store up to eight film rolls.

Ice Cream sold at Walmart and other stores in a dozen states is under recall for ‘life-threatening’ error

Blue Bell Ice Cream, a popular brand sold at retailers including Walmart, issued a recall for some of its half-gallon cartons over a “life-threatening” error — undeclared pecans, almonds and walnuts in the dessert.

The company is recalling its limited edition “Moo-llennium Crunch Ice Cream” because of undeclared pecan, almond and walnut in the cartons produced at Blue Bell’s Brenham, Texas plant, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration said.

Centre Hikes Gunny Bag Usage Charges by 40% to support Sustainable Packaging

The Government of India has increased usage charges for gunny bags by nearly 40%, bringing financial relief to State Governments and Union Territories across the country, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Prahlad Joshi announced in a statement.

The decision is aimed at ensuring smooth procurement operations, thereby supporting sustainable packaging practices while also strengthening Centre–State cooperation in foodgrain procurement and distribution.

Amcor upgrades UK recycling plant for plastic circularity advancements

Amcor has completed major upgrades at its recycling facility in Heanor, UK, processing a range of post-consumer and industrial flexible plastic waste.

Recent investments improved the consistency and quality of recycled output, enabling an additional 2,800 metric tons of recyclate to be used in high-performance flexible packaging applications, according to Amcor.

The brief was to reposition Dare as a premium, indulgent snack range that celebrates flavour, pleasure and the joy of discovery.

The key objectives of the rebrand were to inject emotion into the brand and communicate both the quality and the unique sensory experience of the products.

The Dare logo is designed for on-shelf stand-out, while the rich colour palette paired with touches of gold adds a sense of indulgence and appetite appeal.
