DNP to Reduce CO₂ Emissions by 69% by Switching Photo Media Packaging Materials to Paper from Plastic

Tokyo, May 23, 2024 — Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) made headlines by cutting CO2 emissions from its packaging materials by approximately 69%, or about 45 tons annually. The company achieved this by switching from plastic to paper for packaging that protected its in-house manufactured photo-media products, including ink ribbons and printing paper.

Abbott India recalls Pentids antibiotic batches over packaging issues

The American pharmaceutical giant has initiated a voluntary recall of Pentids 800, Pentids 400, and Pentids 200 tablets. These batches were manufactured by Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Ltd, a newly listed contract manufacturer. Pentids are widely prescribed for treating bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, throat, lungs, nose, skin, and sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis.

Innovia Films Propafilm VL ice cream packaging

The film grade was developed, trialled and launched by the company at its site in Poland.

It can be used on high-speed flow wrap machines of ice cream manufacturers in Europe and can be easily printed and sealed.

Features include a high puncture resistance, which is important to preserve the product and prevent food waste. The printability of the product means users can achieve a good graphic appeal, and the film provides an easy-to-open package.

Packaging costs in Egypt have risen by around 45%

Ali says: “Recently, many exporters have felt the strain of packaging costs, as these are passed on throughout the supply chain. For our part, this increase is attributed to increasing raw material prices and production expenses. Compared to last year, packaging costs in Egypt have risen by around 45%.” The manufacturer continues: “At FreshDeal, we’re doing our best to combat inflation by optimizing our supply chain, improving production efficiency, and exploring cost-effective, sustainable packaging options to keep prices as stable as possible.”

Diageo announces paper-based bottle trial for Baileys Irish Cream Liqueur

In partnership with PA Consulting, as part of the Bottle Collective with PA and PulPac, Diageo is trialling a Dry Molded Fiber bottle which is 90% paper, with a thin plastic liner and a foil seal.

The bottle is designed for recycling in standard paper streams and does not require the consumer to separate the plastic liner from the paper bottle when disposing. The 2,000-bottle trial with consumers will be on Baileys, the Original Irish Cream Liqueur, mini format (80ml) at Time Out Festival in Barcelona, Spain, from 25 – 26 May.
