The EcoFishBox is a transport packaging for fresh and processed fish developed by Stora Enso. The box designed by Mika Tuhkunen from Stora Enso in Finland is manufactured from renewable wood fiber. This environmentally friendly packaging is an alternative for the fish industry, where EPS (Extended Polystyrene) packages are widely used today. Fresh fish packed in ice requires completely leak proof packaging. This water resistance packaging is based on the pre-laminated thin PET-film on the liner and Stora Enso's product designer Mika Tuhkunen developed a structure, which makes the package leak-tight. This pack is delivered as a flat corrugated board sheet, the EcoFishBox takes up seven times less space in storage and transport than the traditional polystyrene fish box. The box can be formed by hand or by machine, and the possibility to print customer-specific images on the box supports brand identity and increases visibility and informativity of the packaging.
